The North Cape raises a cliff of three hundred and seven metres above the Barents Sea. It is the northernmost point in Europe reachable by road, more than two thousand kilometres north of Oslo.
The metal globe set on the plateau has become the symbol of the journey; most visitors come between May and July, when the sun does not set for more than two months.
Honningsvåg, the port below the cape, lives on fishing and cruise calls. Offshore, the island of Gjesvær holds colonies of puffins and gannets in the tens of thousands.
Inland, the Finnmark plateau is Sami country and reindeer herding land; Kautokeino and Karasjok are its two centres.

When to visit the North Cape?
May to July for the midnight sun. In winter the road stays open but is driven in organised convoy depending on the weather.
