Écouen holds its Renaissance château on a wooded rise, a quarter of an hour from Roissy, north of the plaine de France.

Anne de Montmorency’s château stands over the village, today the national Renaissance museum; a stairway drops from it to the town hall square and the old streets. Saint-Acceul church and its stained glass close the town, and the Écouen forest begins behind.
Roissy-CDG is 15 km away, Le Bourget 15, Paris 25, Beauvais 65. The D316 and the Francilienne serve the town.
The château is reached by a climbing drive and parking there is restricted. We set down at the entrance to the estate rather than hunting for a space in the village.
The old town has narrow, sloping streets around the church. An agreed meeting point is worth more than an address halfway up a hill.

Écouen has two kinds of client: museum visitors coming from Paris for the day, and residents leaving early from Roissy — the airport is a quarter of an hour away.
Many pair the château with Chantilly or Senlis, twenty minutes off: that is what hourly hire is for.
Towards Roissy, the D316 then the Francilienne is the most direct route, with the A1 as a fallback. Le Bourget is reached by the A1, Orly by the A1 then the A86, Beauvais by the Francilienne and the A16.
