Jersey and Guernsey are Crown Dependencies, some twenty kilometres off the Norman coast. They belong neither to the United Kingdom nor to the European Union, have their own parliaments and mint their own money.
Victor Hugo spent nineteen years of exile there: three in Jersey, sixteen in Guernsey, in Hauteville House which he decorated himself from cellar to attic and where he wrote Les Misérables. Jersey keeps Mont Orgueil castle and some of the strongest tides in Europe, which uncover half the island.
Ferries leave Saint-Malo, Granville and Barneville-Carteret, taking one to two hours depending on the crossing. The airports take British and French flights.
They drive on the left and speed limits are low: sixty-four kilometres an hour at most in Jersey, barely fifty in Guernsey. The country lanes are narrow and walled.

Yes: Paris, Rennes or Normandy to Saint-Malo or Granville, with the boarding time taken into account.
