Mantes-la-Jolie raises a collegiate church often taken for a younger sister of Notre-Dame, at the end of the Seine loop that closes the western edge of the Paris region.

The town stands between the Seine and the Notre-Dame collegiate church, whose towers have overlooked the centre since the twelfth century. Rue Baudin and rue d’Alsace lead to the market and the shops, the Saint-Maclou tower marks the old parish, and the arches of the Limay bridge stop midway across the river.
The A13 runs to Paris one way and Rouen the other. The N13 and the D983 serve the Mantois, the station links Paris Saint-Lazare and Paris Montparnasse, and the Val de Seine industrial area spreads to the north-east.
