Downtown is covered quickly: the Musical Instrument Museum, the Heard Museum devoted to Native American cultures, and the Desert Botanical Garden, which explains the desert better than any book. Papago Park and its Hole in the Rock give the view at sunset.
The difficulty lies elsewhere: Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe and Mesa form one continuous urban area but remain separate cities. An address given as “in Phoenix” can turn out to be forty kilometres from the centre.
The flight leaves Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle and lands at Sky Harbor, five kilometres from downtown — one of the best-placed airports in the country. We handle the airport drop-off on the way out and meet you on the way back, with your flight number on file and waiting time included.
Two points are worth knowing: from June to September the heat regularly passes forty-five degrees, at times delaying departures; and Phoenix has no Amtrak station — the nearest is at Maricopa, fifty kilometres south.
