Sofia backs onto the Vitosha massif, visible from almost anywhere in the city. The Alexander Nevsky cathedral with its gilded domes, the Roman remains of Serdica beneath the centre, and wide boulevards.
The mountain changes everything in winter. Our chauffeurs adapt the timings when it snows rather than hold to a theoretical schedule.
The airport is about ten kilometres east of the centre. Bansko is two hours south by road, Borovets an hour and a half.
