St Andrews is the home of golf: the Old Course has been played since the fifteenth century and the Royal & Ancient keeps the rules of the game. The Swilcan Bridge, on the 18th, is photographed from a distance.
The town keeps the ruins of its cathedral and castle on the edge of the North Sea, and the oldest university in Scotland. West Sands beach runs alongside the course.
Edinburgh Airport is the most practical. Dundee, closer in, mainly takes domestic flights.
The nearest station is Leuchars, a few minutes away by road. The driver waits at the platform exit or in arrivals.
