Private chauffeur in Versailles: the château, the stations and the airports

Versailles is not a suburb of Paris in the way its neighbours are. It is a city in its own right, with its own centre, its own hotels and a visitor flow that peaks and collapses with the château’s opening hours. It is also further out than anywhere else we cover regularly, and pretending otherwise would only make us late. The times below are the ones we actually work to.

Airport transfers from Versailles

Orly is the natural airport here. Allow around 35 to 55 minutes to Orly by the A86, against 55 to 80 minutes to Roissy-Charles de Gaulle and 55 to 75 minutes to Le Bourget, both of which mean crossing or circling the whole western half of the region. Beauvais is a serious journey: 1h30 to 1h50. Therefore, for an early northbound flight we usually suggest a departure that feels too early by twenty minutes, and we would rather wait at the terminal than watch a check-in close.

Indeed, the flight number is tracked from the moment you book, so a schedule change moves the pick-up on its own. Waiting time on arrival is included, and the chauffeur can hold a name board in the baggage hall for a guest arriving from abroad.

Three stations, three uses

Versailles-Chantiers handles the main lines and the TER traffic, Versailles Château Rive Gauche puts RER C passengers a few minutes from the palace gates, and Versailles Rive Droite runs to Saint-Lazare on Transilien line L. Moreover, each of them has a completely different access problem: Chantiers is congested at commuter hours, Rive Gauche is inside the tourist flow, Rive Droite is quiet but poorly signposted. We name the exact meeting point when we confirm rather than leaving you to guess.

The château, receptions and seminars

Receptions in the Orangerie, dinners in the château’s private spaces, corporate days at the Trianon Palace and seminars in the town’s hotels all bring the same requirement: a group arriving from Paris on time, together, and leaving again without a queue at the door. As a result we work with vans as well as sedans, agree the drop-off with the venue in advance, and keep the vehicles close for the return rather than sending them back empty.

International clients

A large share of the demand in Versailles is foreign: visitors staying in Paris who want the château at their own pace, families who would rather not spend an hour on the RER with children, business travellers attending an event and flying out the same evening. Consequently our chauffeurs are used to explaining the route, waiting through a long visit and adjusting the afternoon when the queue at the gate is worse than expected.
