The Christkindelsmärik has run since 1570, which makes it the oldest Christmas market in France. For a month, a dozen markets fill the Grande Île, around the cathedral and Place Kléber, and the city takes in around two million visitors.
A city centre closed for a month
The Grande Île, UNESCO-listed, goes into reinforced pedestrian mode as soon as the markets open. Access is filtered and checked, and central parking is suspended.
You do not park in Strasbourg in December: the question is where to be dropped off, and above all where to be picked up in the evening with the shopping.
The busy hours
The peak falls on Saturday afternoon and early evening, when the markets are lit and the cold pushes everyone down the same streets.
A chauffeur waiting at an agreed point on the edge of the perimeter saves the walk back in the cold, bags in hand.
What we organise in December
We cover transfers from Strasbourg-Entzheim airport and the station, runs from hotels outside the city and across the German border, and days out on the wine route.
The van takes the shopping and keeps the group together; the chauffeur stays directly reachable if you want to head back early.

Colmar, Riquewihr, Kaysersberg and Eguisheim each have their own Christmas market, less than an hour from Strasbourg: exactly the kind of day where the car stays at your disposal.
The chauffeur waits from one village to the next, with no parking to hunt for in saturated centres.
