At the end of May, Monaco closes its streets to run Formula 1 cars through them. The circuit passes the Casino square, the tunnel and the harbour; for four days the principality works around a three-and-a-half-kilometre layout that cuts the town in two.
A town cut in two by its own circuit
The barriers and grandstands go up a fortnight before the race. Once the circuit is closed you can no longer cross Monaco from one side to the other: you go under it, through the pedestrian tunnels and the public lifts.
Parking is suspended across much of the principality, and road access is filtered by accreditation from Thursday onwards.
The drop-off points that actually work
Depending on where you are expected — Casino, Port Hercule, La Rousse, Fontvieille — the workable drop-off point changes completely, and it changes again from one day of the weekend to the next.
The chauffeur fits the route to whatever is open that day, and picks you up at the agreed point when the race ends and everyone leaves at once.
What we organise that weekend
Our late-May journeys usually start in Nice, Cannes, Beaulieu, Èze or Cap-d’Ail, with late returns after the harbour parties.
The van keeps the group in one vehicle, and the chauffeur stays directly reachable across the whole weekend.
Around the Grand Prix
Many guests stay outside Monaco, between Nice and Menton, and take in practice, qualifying and the race over three days.
The car stays at your disposal by the day rather than by the journey, which spares you waiting for a ride every time you go out.
